(Midtown, NYC) August, 1 2008: Cool off with hot comedy at THE CHICAGO CITY LIMITS SUMMER COMEDY FESTIVAL throughout the month of August! The Festival provides a sizzling sampler of the very best in New York City comedy, presented in just about every refreshing comedic flavor imaginable—including improv, sketch, standup, rock, and more—all funny, all ready to go.
Here’s our menu:
-
Chicago City Limits Presents: One State, Two State, Red State, Blue State (Fri. Aug. 1 and Sat. Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30). Chicago City Limits hits the campaign trail with its all-new improv comedy review. Comedy scenes and songs that take aim at the faces, places, and events from today’s headlines, along with improvisations created on the spot from audience-inspired suggestions. $15 + min.
-
The Next Big Broadway Musical! (Fri. Aug. 8, 15, 22 & 29). The original, fully-improvised musical comedy returns for a limited run. In the first act the cast improvises songs based on audience suggested titles. Then YOU decide which one will become the centerpiece of a fully improvised musical to be seen —in its entirety— in act two. $20 + min. 212.803.5433.
-
Pembroke and Lu (Thu. Aug. 7). This musical comedy duo hosts a variety show that features comics showcasing their music, stand-up, magic and more. $10 + min.
-
BTK Band (Thu. Aug. 14) is a 2/3 improvised punk/funk/rock band that takes its subject matter directly from “the depths of madness”—kind of like Blues Traveler, if Blues Traveler was all about ritualistic sacrifice. BTK is Sharon Fogarty on flute & guitar, Rory Scholl on guitar & bass, and Peter Aguero on lead vocals, harmonica, and bourbon. $10 + min.
-
Additives: A Mathematical Improv Quandry (Thu. Aug. 21). Annie Schiffmann, Rob Schiffmann, Stefan Schick & Deb Rabbai perform a three-person musical improv show with six characters. You do the math. $10 + min.
-
Hillary Step Classics (Thu. Aug. 28). Rob Schiffman and Jon Rothstein premiere new acoustic material and jam out on some of the old ‘Step favorites. Special guests will be plentiful. Come out and hear your favorites and your future favorites. $10 + min.
-
What’s the Story? (Wed. Aug. 20) A storytelling show based on truth, injustice and the American way. Featuring some of New York’s most talented malcontents. $10+ min.
Festival runs Wed.-Sat., August 1-30. Chicago City Limits Theater. 318 West 53 St. (bet. 8th & 9th Aves.) Tickets are $10-$20 with a 2 beverage minimum.
